BIRTHFIT is a movement. It’s about expecting and postpartum moms taking charge of their bodies and their decisions, and supporting one another’s journeys—together and apart.

BIRTHFIT is an approach to birth. We challenge the status quo and ask the questions no one else asks. We read, research, experiment, and consolidate all the common sense, time-honored wisdom, and recent studies we can find and present that information to you through various education models. Our pillars are fitness, nutrition, mindset, and connection. We unconditionally support YOU—the birth mom & birth partner—to make the best decision for you and Baby.

BIRTHFIT is a state of readiness. Childbirth is perhaps the most physical, mental, and spiritual experience of a woman’s life. We want you to be ready in body, mind, and spirit for the experience of birth and the lifelong journey that follows.

BIRTHFIT is your support team. We are a team of practitioners, educators, chiropractors, coaches, nutritionists, fellow mamas, men, and women who are involved in our local communities and we are all rooting for YOU.

Our experiences and services are founded on four pillars:

To functionally train throughout the Motherhood Transition in all planes of motion to develop competencies and physical skills as well as enhance the main metabolic pathways.

To cultivate a relationship with food that is rich in color and nutrients from a wide variety of animals, fish, plants, fruits, fats, and starchy tubers, while nourishing the body through the different rhythms of life and the female cycle.

To create space between a stimulus and a response, to embrace a growth perspective, and create action around values in order to make decisions from a place of love rather than fear.

To open pathways from the cellular to the metaphysical level wherein a human can experience and express optimal health in body, mind, and soul.

We believe the Motherhood Transition should be approached with attention and intention;
we support women making informed decisions instead of accepting the status quo.

The team behind the BIRTHFIT movement consists of individuals who have made it their mission to improve the way the world views birth. From behind-the-scenes work to showing up physically, our team is here to raise the standard, challenge the status quo, and make change.

Autumn Weiss

BIRTHFIT Coach, CFL2, Co-Owner CrossFit 757, DONA Trained Birth Doula, DNS Exercise 1

Autumn is a wife and mother of 3 and BIRTHFIT Regional Director servicing Hampton Roads Virginia. She started following BIRTHFIT in 2015 during her last pregnancy and knew she needed to pursue involvement on a higher level to have more of an impact in her community. A career of coaching strength & conditioning has led her to apply knowledge and expertise to women in the motherhood transition from preconception through postpartum. She has experienced and witnessed the power of choice and knowledge and now has the passion to help others achieve their birth desires.

Anna Carroll

In her day job Anna works as an epidemiologist for a large military public health center. Epidemiologists use a data-driven approach to understanding the distribution and determinants of health-related conditions. When she became pregnant with her first daughter, Anna recognized the value of her scientific background in understanding the evidence (and lack thereof) associated with a healthy pregnancy, from preconception to postpartum. She discovered BIRTHFIT in 2016 and found it to be a perfect intersection of her interests in healthy living, fitness, and science. She looks forward to engaging in and spreading the BIRTHFIT movement in the Hampton Roads community.

Zoe O’Dea

Zoe is a full time yoga instructor and has been teaching since 2011. She received both her 200 and 300 hour certifications through Yax Yoga Concepts and teaches both in-studio group classes and in-home private sessions. After being introduced to BIRTHFIT through her friend Autumn and the CrossFit community, she knew there was so much more to learn about how yoga can be beneficial to women during the prenatal and postpartum journey. She became a BIRTHFIT Coach in 2019 and is excited to share her passion of yoga, movement, and breath work with the Hampton Roads community.
